DIVISION Two leaders Hepworth & Idle are the only unbeaten side in the Bradford & District Evening League as previously unbeaten Salem Athletic crashed at home to the Adil Rashid Cricket Academy.

In-form Mosun Hussain (46) and Sami Rehman (41) laid the foundation for the Academy’s 137-4 from their 16 overs.

In reply, Salem Athletic were all out for 70,with Khalid Usman (29) the only batsman to come to terms with the conditions and the Academy’s bowlers, the pick of whom was Adam Ahmed (3-3).

Despite the defeat, Salem stay top of Division One on nine points, but are now followed by four clubs on seven points – Adil Rashid CA, Ciroc, Denholme and Shelf.

New signings have made Shelf a force to be reckoned, and they surpassed Ciroc’s more than handy total of 131-8 from 18 overs (Bilal Ahmed 36, Amjad Khan 28, Awais Ejaz 27no) with five wickets and five overs to spare as openers Zahid Khaliq (52no) and Danish Hussain (36) put on 95.

A hat-trick from Sajid Ali (4-21) halted Denholme’s march towards an even bigger score as they ended on 154-9 from 18 overs, with skipper Richard Wear top-scoring with 52 not out.

This total was never really in danger after Denholme had removed the Greenfield opening pair of Adeel Ahmed (31) and Khalid Ullah (41) as Denholme’s shrewd field placings restricted the Karmand side to 133-5.

Makeshift spinner Jack Hainsworth was the pick of the Denholme bowlers with 3-33.

Mayfield were again unable to raise a team as they conceded to Thornton.

In Division Two, in-form batsman Kevin McDermott’s 44 came as no surprise but this week his score was equalled by his brother Simon as Hepworth & Idle lost just six wickets in setting Cross Roads & Daisy Hill a target of 144 from 18 overs.

Mahesh Patel (50no) again top scored for the Busy Lane side as they fell well short of victory, ending on 93-6.

John Breare made it four wins on the bounce to move into joint second after an emphatic ten-wicket victory at Westfield Lane against lowly Cambing.

Tom Simpson’s 3-4 helped Breare restrict the visitors to 97-9 from their 16 overs after being 67-9 before No 10 batsman Uzair Salman (31no) added an air of respectability to the score.

Openers Cieran Garner (52no) and recent run machine Peter Kempton (43no) just failed to make a century partnership as Breare finished on 99-0 with 3.2 overs to spare.

Crossflatts’ Jodi Town-Jones took 3-21 as Great Horton Park Chapel continued their recent run of poor form to finish on 108 all out (Ben Burkill 39).

However, Chapel did give joint second-placed Crossflatts a scare as they took seven wickets before the home side eventually gained victory with ten balls to spare.

An improving Raja’s gave up home advantage but were still able to overcome Bradshaw, restricting the Halifax outfit to 94-9, despite the best efforts of James Thompson (38) and Adam Spendelow (28no).

Mohammed Shoaib (36no) and M Saqib (29no) made sure there were no slip ups as Raja’s achieved their target for the loss of two wickets off just 7.2 overs.

Tomorrow's games are - Division One: Adil Rashid Cricket Academy v Shelf, Ciroc v Thornton, Denholme v Salem Athletic, Mayfield v Greenfield. Division Two: Bradshaw v Cross Roads & Daisy Hill, Cambing v Raja’s, Crossflatts v John Breare, Hepworth & Idle v Great Horton Park Chapel.
