WITH last week’s games in the Bradford & District Evening League all being the victim of the weather without a ball being bowled, it is time to reflect on the standings with just four weeks to go in the season.

Division One continues to be as tight as ever, with debutants the Adil Rashid Cricket Academy leading the way on 11 points, just two points (one win) ahead of second-placed Ciroc and three points ahead of Salem Athletic, Shelf, Denholme and Thornton, who are joint third.

In addition, Ciroc, Salem Athletic and Shelf all have a game in hand on the Academy.

With Mayfield having withdrawn from the league, the remaining relegation spot is occupied by Greenfields on six points, just two points behind the four teams in joint third!

With the situation at both ends of the table on a knife-edge, some clubs are already reaching for the rule book to confirm how the final standings will be determined should teams end up with the same number of points.

Firstly, the positions will be decided on the most games won, and if they are still equal the positions will be decided on the results between the two teams concerned.

If they still cannot be separated, the placings will be decided on average net run rate i.e. the average runs scored per wickets lost divided by the average runs conceded per wickets taken.

The situation in Division Two is a lot more clear cut.

Unbeaten Hepworth & Idle lead the way on 18 points and need just two wins from their final four games to not only clinch promotion to the top flight but also claim the championship and a well-deserved place in the end-of-season finals day play-offs at Great Horton Park Chapel on Bank Holiday Monday (August 28).

The second promotion spot, which also earns a place at finals day, is being contested by four clubs – Crossflatts and John Breare on 12 points and Raja’s & Great Horton Park Chapel just one win behind on ten points.

The race to avoid this season’s wooden spoon is being contested by Bradshaw and Cambing on six points and Cross Roads-Daisy Hill on four points.

However, it needs to be said that all clubs have been very competitive this year and have contributed greatly to the success and enjoyment of the season.

Tomorrow's games are - Division One: Ciroc v Greenfields, Shelf v Salem Athletic, Thornton v Denholme. Division Two: Bradshaw v Crossflatts, Cross Roads & Daisy Hill v Raja’s, Great Horton Park Chapel v Cambing, Hepworth & Idle v John Breare.
