JAMES Emmott's five-wicket haul helped Steeton to a two-wicket win over Kirkstall Education in Division Two of the Aire-Wharfe League.

Emmott took 5-63 after a good start by the hosts saw Joe Stead (1-34) break the opening partnership in the first over.

Tom Stead weighed in with three catches as Kirkstall were all out for 206 runs in 37.1 overs before his fifth-wicket partnership with Oliver Gledhill helped put Steeton on their way to victory.

They were struggling at 75-4 before the pair recorded 81 runs in the next 13 overs. Stead hit 41, while Gledhill top-scored for his team, passing the half-century mark with 53 runs from only 42 deliveries.

It still needed an unbeaten 22 from Emmott to ensure Steeton got over the line after the hosts had slipped to 187-8.

Earlier in the innings, 14-year-old debutant Will Luxton produced a nerveless display at number three, hitting 46.

The result sees Steeton remain firmly in mid-table, sat in sixth after their sixth victory of the season, while defeat for Kirkstall put a dent in their promotion chances.

In Division Three, Paul Quinlan produced a season-best 6-21 spell to dismiss Bolton Villas for 103, which Harden passed in 19.5 overs for the loss of four wickets, Tom Cummins (54) and Mark Portlock (29no) heading the charge.

Meanwhile, Steeton II came close to recording their first away win of the season, only for their 35-over per side rain-affected clash with North Leeds to end in a tie.

Impressive performances from Aatif Modak, who hit 47, and Luke Watson, who took five wickets and conceded only 25 runs, saw the team come close, only for both sides to finish on 147 runs.

While Steeton posted 147-8, the visitors needed just two runs to win from their final over but with just one wicket left.

That saw Zaggy Pearson concede just one run in his first five balls before North Leeds suffered a run-out on their last ball.

Harden II fell just short of Bolton Villas II's 166-9, Liam Kelly making 53no in the visitors' 155-9.
