THE weather played a big part in determining the final standings on the last week of the Bradford & District Eveing League season.

In Division One, all the matches were washed out without a ball being bowled, despite frantic efforts to get grounds fit before a final afternoon downpour ruled out play.

This meant that Ciroc, who ironically had been the victims of the weather the week before when they were the only game not to finish, benefited this time to be crowned champions in their first top-flight season.

They finished one point ahead of the Adil Rashid Cricket Academy, who will join Ciroc in the finals day play-offs on Bank Holiday Monday (August 28) at Great Horton Park Chapel’s Ewart Street ground.

As expected, Division One proved very competitive this season, with only four points separating Ciroc from Denholme in sixth, with Salem Athletic, Shelf and Thornton third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Greenfield are the only team to be relegated, following the mid-season withdrawal of Mayfield.

The weather also spoiled an exciting climax to the season in Division Two as the clash between second-placed John Breare and third-placed Crossflatts was unable to take place at Westfield Lane.

This meant that John Breare were confirmed as runners-up, and with it promotion to Division One and a place at finals day.

However, it also meant that they were unable to catch Hepworth & Idle at the top, with new boys Crossflatts therefore staying in Division Two, despite a very successful season.

Hepworth & Idle were therefore already confirmed as Division Two champions, but they didn't know that when they travelled to Great Horton Park Chapel, who still harboured lingering hopes of finishing runners-up themselves.

Kevin McDermott hit 31 as Hepworth & Idle set the home side a modest 104-7, thanks mainly to Chris Tite (3-19).

However, Chapel were then unable to rise to the challenge, finishing on 90-9, despite the best efforts of Darren Wilson (23), David Dunne taking 3-8.

The only other game to be played was at Cambing, who were skittled for 37 by Raja’s as Mohammed Altaf took 4-2.

A quickfire 25 not out by opener Usman Ali gave Raja’s victory in just seven overs.

Finals Day, semi-finals: Hepworth & Idle v Adil Rashid Cricket Academy (11am), Ciroc v John Breare (1.30). Final: 4.30pm.
