The battle to avoid the drop with Cononley involved Bradley, Embsay and Cowling.

Bradley were at home to second- placed Cullingworth, who blasted 231-8, with Bevan Ravenscroft scoring 61 and Chris Welch 57.

The South Craveners could only manage 173-5 in reply, with Neil Andrews (58no) leading the way.

Embsay were two points adrift of Bradley and tackled Bingley Congs at Beckfoot Lane.

The hosts, led by Chris Hemsley (26) and Tom Keighley (21), made a modest 112 as Scott Robinson took 5-45 and John Metcalfe 4-13.

The Shires Laners crashed to 5-3 and then 24-4 and if Duncan Ward had not been dropped twice before he had scored, things would have been dire.

However, Ward recovered his composure, went on to make 36no to go with Alan Pickles’ 51no and safety was assured by six wickets.

That left Cowling, who were at Barrowford and went down by six wickets to be relegated.

The Keighley Road side were invited to bat and posted 153-7, with S Hassan scoring 52 and Gareth Frankland 31 as Nick Burton took 2-10.

Freddie Bailey (76no) and Ajmal Choudrhy (42) saw the Bull Holme side to the spoils by six wickets.

Champions Oakworth travelled to Haworth Road and went down by three wickets. Chasing the Wide Lane side’s 169-8, Pete Rod-well scored 43 as the Baildon Bottom side got home, despite the efforts of Matt House (5-33).

Thornton entertained Cononley and soon found themselves 47-4. Then Jason Lockley (74) and Mark Paxton (54no) rescued things with a fifth-wicket partnership of 79.

This, with some tail-wagging, got the score to 207-8 as Billy Pinder (5-44) was in the wickets again.

The visitors were chugging along fairly well at 131-3 but then the wickets tumbled and they were all out for 162. Herbert Starkey top scored with 48 as Jason Lockley took 4-26 and Luke Scothern 3-31.

Haworth did their renowned act of drawing lots for their batting order in the final game.

It wasn’t going well at 126-9 after 40 overs. However, skipper Damian Rowell, coming in at No 11, blasted a rapid 69 to take the final score to 209. A stunned home side were never really in the hunt and closed on 141.
