Three Oakbank School pupils have received call-ups to representative squads – including one for England.

Jessica Courtman, who is in year 12, has been picked for the England under-16 Girls Future Development Rugby League squad.

Year ten student Stacey Rooke has made it into the West Yorkshire under-15 Netball Academy and Amy Manning, in year eight, has been selected for the Bradford under-13 netball squad.

PE teacher Kathryn Shepherd said: “They’ve worked very hard and it’s a real achievement to have been selected for a representative side. Oakbank is proud of them.

“We do have quite a lot of students representing Bradford but West Yorkshire and England isn’t something we get so often.”

Jessica, who plays for Castleford Panthers, is one of 24 of the most promising young female rugby league players in the country to be selected for a new programme aligned with the England Women’s team.

The squad, who benefit from top-class coaching, have already enjoyed several training sessions at Tong in Bradford.

Shepherd added: “We hope that Jess will get into the full England women’s side and play in the World Cup.”
