Wilsden motorbike racer David Lund has extended his lead at the top of the Tristar R&G Triple Challenge.

Having started the support series competition within British Superbikes with a win and two podium spots at Brands Hatch, the Triumph Daytona 675R rider continued his good form at the latest meeting at Oulton Park.

Despite a mistake with timing causing him to have to start the first race from the back of the grid, he managed to secure a win in the Cup Championship to extend his lead in the table to 37 points.

The second race of the weekend was a little more difficult, due to racing on used tyres, but Lund hung on for another win – just 0.4 seconds ahead of the second-placed finisher.

A delighted Lund, who competes for TSL Buntons Racing, said: “I couldn’t have dreamed of a better start to the season, having finished on the podium in all five races so far.

“Having just turned 41 years old and with less than three years’ racing experience, I find myself having to push to the limits – rubbing fairings with athletes half my age but with double the experience.

“Standing on top of the podium in the British Superbike paddock, in front of my wife Trudy and children Chloe and Emily is a dream come true and makes all the effort worthwhile.

“Hopefully we can continue to ride the wave throughout the season.”

The next round of the championship is supporting the World Superbike event at Donington Park from May 23-25.
