KEIGHLEY & Craven Athletics Club's junior track and field team have been putting in some strong performances in the Yorkshire & District Athletics League.

The newcomers came second in round one last month in Wakefield and repeated that position in round two in Cleethorpes, again behind Barton, Hull & Goole AC, to leave them 57 points behind the leaders with two rounds remaining – at Barnsley on Sunday, July 20 and Wakefield on Sunday, August 10.

Round one winners included Ryan Watmough in the boys' under-15 800 metres A, high jump A and 75m hurdles A, Elliot Brett in the boys' under-15s 1500m A, Fergus Knappy in the boys' under-13 80m A and Harvey Lewis in the boys' under-13s 1500m A and high jump A.

On the female side, Lucy Fryers won the under-13 800m A and 75m A, Katie Atkinson lifting the under-13 150m A and 1200m A and Eve Crossley the girls' under-13s 75m B and long jump B.

Meanwhile, Ellie Bamfield won the under-13 long jump A, Tegan Knappy the under-15 girls' 100m B, Emily Robinson the girls' under-15s 800m B, Susan Lloyd the under-15 girls' javelin A and Alana Willis the under-15 girls' long jump B.

Fryers, Atkinson and Crossley combined with Angelina Bairstow to win the under-13 girls' 4x100m, with Laura Knowles, Robinson, Knappy and Lloyd taking the under-15 girls' 4x100m.

Watmough, Lewis, Fergus Knappy and Charlie Spencer won the boys' under-13s 3x100m, Bairstow the girls' under-13s 1200m B and Crossley the girls' under-13s long jump B.

Keighley & Craven had 20 winners at Cleethorpes, compared to 24 at Wakefield.

Johnny Thompson took the boys' under-13s 80m B, 800m B and shot putt B, Watmough winning the boys' under-15s 800m A and high jump A, Jack Walton the boys' under-13s 75m hurdles A and the 1500m B and Finlay Whitehead the boys' under-13s 800m A and high jump B.

Other boys' winners were Edward Hartley (boys' under-13s high jump A and long jump B), Robert Thompson (boys' under-17 shot putt) and Brett the boys' under-15s 1500m A.

Among the girls, Robinson won the under-17s' 300m A and under-15 javelin A, Atkinson lifting the under-13 800m A and 70m hurdles B and Susan Lloyd the under-15 100m B and 800m B.

Completing the female haul was Bairstow in the under-13 girls' 800m B, Bamfield in the under-13 70m hurdles A and Stella Richards in the under-13 shot putt B.

Relay triumphs came via Bamfield, Bairstow, Fryers and Atkinson in the under-13 girls' 4x100m and Watmough, Johnny Thompson, Walton and Whitehead in the equivalent boys' race.

Keighley and Craven Athletics Club hosted the Yorkshire Veterans' Five-Mile Road Race – the annual 'Full Bronte 5' – which attracted a quality field of over 130.

The men's race was won in 28min 52sec, with Queensbury athlete Chris Williams splitting the winner Will Smith and third-placed Craig Shearer, both of the host club.

Halifax Harrier Sarah Cumber won the ladies' race, followed by local GP Jo Buckley and Catherine Farrow of Ilkley Harriers.

Team prizes were won by Keighley & Craven AC's men's team and Halifax Harriers' women's team.

The Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race took place at Sutton in Craven on Sunday afternoon, with Dave Kirkham (Wharfedale Harriers) winning the men's race and Rachel Lowther (Barlick Fell Runners) the women's race.

All money raised went towards Kildwick and Farnhill Scouts.
