Racing in Yorkshire centres around the two-day meeting at Doncaster tomorrow afternoon and on Saturday evening, the latter supplemented by post-race live music from Triple Brit Award-winning Leeds band, Kaiser Chiefs.

On day one, Brian Ellison’s Agent Murphy is on a hat-trick in the £12,000 Bobis handicap over one mile at 3.35, while the entry of Ronaldinho by jumps trainer Alan King in the 1m 6f handicap at 4.45 appears noteworthy and perhaps timely with the World Cup continuing in Brazil!

Saturday’s seven-race programme begins at 5.30 and I’ll give one final chance to Alan McCabe’s Showboating if honouring the entry in the 7.40 handicap. The step up to one mile may be just what the six-year-old requires and he will be each way value.

Earlier in the afternoon, televised action on Channel 4 is from Newcastle and Newmarket. At the northern track, keep an eye on Tim Easterby’s Body And Soul in the Group 3 contest over 6f at 2.40, while in the feature race, the Northumberland Plate over 2m at 3.50, top Irish trainer Willie Mullins holds several promising entries, among them last Saturday’s impressive Royal Ascot winner Pique Sous.

Kieren Fallon’s potential booking for Nicky Henderson’s Earth Amber is also worthy of note, as is the fact that horses drawn low can normally be given an edge.

At Newmarket, David Simcock’s Sheikhzayedroad can be shortlisted in the 1m 4f Listed race at 2.55, while Brian Ellison’s Top Notch Tonto holds strong claims in the Group 3 7f contest at 3.30, though note an alternative entry in the 3.40 at Windsor on the same day, which looks easier.

It’s also the Irish Derby at The Curragh, with Aiden O’Brien’s English Derby victor Australia among the trainer’s seven entries in the field of 11 runners.

The horses touted above form the selections this week.
