KEIGHLEY teenager Leah Moorby has been called up to the junior England team for this year's Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships in Edinburgh on November 15-16.

The selection caps off an already remarkable year for the 15-year-old Holy Family student. Leah spent two weeks in Korea back in March this year before flying to Taiwan to compete in the Junior World Championships. She was the youngest member of the GB squad yet returned with a bronze medal and came within one point of reaching the final.

Since then she has been unbeaten domestically for the second year running and two weeks ago claimed the British Junior -59kg title at the first attempt in the junior age category at the Manchester Velodrome.

It is now three years since the Keighley black belt made the move to Ultimate Taekwondo in Doncaster to be coached by Kathy Hook on the advice of her former instructor Lisa Winteridge.

England are taking a large team across all categories, including Olympic bronze medallist Lutalo Muhammad, with Olympic champion Jade Jones competing for her native Wales.

Leah's dad Gary said: "Leah has worked hard for her achievements. She has a very good coach and has a very good support network around her.

"Paul Royston does a great job ensuring she is in peak physical condition at the right times, head teacher Mr Hings and her school (Holy Family) have been very supportive.

"We would like to thank everyone who have supported Leah on her journey this year for their support, including her main sponsors Airedale Chemicals and Workouts health club."

Leah added: "I am extremely pleased that I have now been selected to represent England. I would like to thank my coach Kath and everyone that has supported and helped me with my Taekwondo."
