SIBLINGS Daniel and Hannah Priestley, from Cullingworth, were among five students from Horizon Taekwondo Academy who successfully passed their black belt gradings in Nottingham with British Taekwondo, the national governing body for Olympic Taekwondo in the UK.

Daniel, aged 16, was the club's first ever student nine years ago and, despite having learning difficulties, has excelled as evidenced with a solid 1st Dan black belt pass.

Hannah, aged 13, started taekwondo when she was five and passed her 2nd Dan black belt. She is also part of the Horizon Taekwondo Academy sparring team.

Also passing 1st Dan black belt tests were Thomas Henley (17, Harrogate), Zak Spencer (10, Baildon) and Kisler Flores (13, Allerton).

The students travelled to Nottingham with coach Natalie Kidd, who teaches at Horizon Taekwondo Academy. The test was headed by Grandmaster Ian Lennox, a black belt 8th Dan and leader of the Dan Grading panel which included three 7th Dan black belt examinders.

The test included performing Olympic Sparring, self defence, one step sparring, one for one kicking, board breaking tests and Taekwondo Poomsae (patterns).
