DENHOLME'S Rebekah Tiler has been nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award shortlist for the second successive year.

The Bingley Grammar School pupil became the youngest weightlifter to win a senior women's British title, while the 15-year-old also won silver in the European Youth Championships.

She also narrowly missed out on a Commonwealth Games bronze when she finished fourth by 5kg in the women's 69kg weightlifting.

Also among the ten candidates for the BBC accolade is gymnast Nile Wilson from Pudsey. The 18-year-old won four medals representing England in the Commonwealth Games, including two gold, a silver and a bronze.

He also won five out of six events at the Junior British Championships to take the overall title and became the first person in junior European Artistic Gymnastics history to win five gold medals at the same competition.

Other contenders are Alicia Blagg (diving), Erraid Davies (para swimming), Claudia Fragapane (gymnastics), Jade Jones (wheelchair racing), Morgan Lake (athletics), Bradley Neil (golf), Rebekah Simon (canoeing) and Sophie Thornhill (para cycling).

The top three will be announced live on Blue Peter on Thursday, December 11 on CBBC, with the winner will being revealed at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow on Sunday, December 14.
