REBEKAH Tiler is delighted to be on the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year shortlist for a second straight time.

However, the 15-year-old weightlifter from Denholme is not building up her hopes, despite becoming the youngest weightlifter to win a senior women's British title, taking a silver medal in the European Youth Championships and narrowly missing out on bronze in the Commonwealth Games.

The Bingley Grammar School pupil is down to the final ten but confesses: "I will just be glad to get into the final three."

Among Rebekah's rivals on the shortlist are gymnasts Claudia Fragapane, who became the first Englishwoman to win four golds at a Commonwealth Games for 84 years, and Nile Wilson, from Pudsey, who won five European junior gold medals and two in the Commonwealth Games.

Others on the list are Wakefield diver Alicia Blagg – another Commonwealth gold medallist – para-swimmer Erraid Davies, wheelchair racer Jade Jones, athlete Morgan Lake, golfer Neil Bradley, canoeist Rebekah Simon and para-cyclist Sophie Thornhill.

The top three will be announced on Blue Peter on Thursday, December 11, with the winner revealed at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow on Sunday, December 14.

Previous winners include Wayne Rooney (2002), Andy Murray (2004), Theo Walcott (2006), Tom Daley (2007, 2009, 2010) and Ellie Simmonds (2008).

Rebekah, meanwhile, is in training again after the back injury that she picked up at the Commonwealth Games which ruled her out of the recent World Championships in Kazakhstan.

She said: "I have been training for about two weeks, but I won't be competing until the new year.

"My first event back is the Northern Under-23 Championships on January 31 at my home club of Mytholmroyd.

"Then two big events that have been earmarked for me by my coach Eddie Halstead are the World Youth Championships in Lima, Peru from April 7-12 and the European Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia from April 9-18 but with them overlapping, I doubt if I will be able to do both.

"Then there is the World Junior Championships in Wroclaw, Poland from June 6-14."
