Chris Melling's recovery against Martin Gould was halted in the eighth frame
CHRIS Melling was beaten 5-3 in his last competitive match before the Christmas and New year break.
The 35-year-old was beaten 5-3 by the experienced Martin Gould in the first round of the German Masters qualifiers at the Robin Park Arena and Sports Centre in Wigan.
Melling won the first 61-56 but lost the four, including a 68-56 scoreline in the fourth, where he made a 54 break.
However, the Keighley man won the next two 61-38, 55-27 before losing the eighth frame 76-29, Gould finishing his man off with a 71.
