AN INTENSIVE hour in the gym will help a Haworth athlete raise money for his entry in a major sports competition.

Chris Woodhead is representing Great Britain at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles this summer.

He has to raise more than £3,000 for travel, accommodation, training and entrance fees. And as a major part of his fundraising, Chris will be sponsored to perform a number of lifts in one hour.

He will perform the fitness challenge as part of his training at Shipley gym Workouts with fellow members of the Bradford Sports Lifters group.

Chris and East Morton teenager, James Crossley, will both take part in the powerlifting section of the World Games.

The pair have carried out fundraising activities together, and James recently completed a triathlon along the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, raising £300.

James first rode from Skipton to Keighley, then climbed in a canoe to paddle back to Bradley. He finished his trip back to Skipton by bike.

James was accompanied on the trip by Steve Farleigh, a sports coach with Bradford and Disability Sport and Leisure (BDSL), which is organising James’s trip.

. .

BDSL spokesman, Barry Thorne, said: “James did exceptionally well. He didn’t catch a breath during his triathlon.”

People willing to sponsor the pair should e-mail bsr1@btconnect.com or call 01274 437093. Visit justgiving.com/bradfordsports to sponsor Chris in his lifting challenge.
