VICTORIA Hall will host the first nationally televised wrestling series on British TV in a quarter of a century on Saturday.

New Generation Wrestling’s Anarchy event will have local interest, with Keighley’s own Liam Slater keen to impress his large home-town following as he takes on Dara Diablo at Victoria Hall.

Slater said: “This year will be the fourth time we’ve performed in Keighley and the crowd are always up for it and the event just gets bigger and bigger each year.

“For me personally, having to travel up and down the country means the opportunity to perform in front of my friends and family in my home town is a special feeling.

“NGW will be promoted nationally with the event as well because Anarchy will be recorded to be shown on Challenge TV.

“The fans can expect fireworks in the main event, the three lads (Nathan Cruz, Zack Gibson and Bubblegum) aren’t the best of friends so it should be explosive and it’s to win the prestigious British Bulldog Cup.”

One of the few part-time wrestlers on the NGW roster, Slater is soon to join the ranks on more of a full-time basis.

“I’m part-time but the majority of the lads in NGW are full-time. Outside the ring, I’m just finishing my third and final year of a broadcast production course at the University of Huddersfield, so will be graduating this summer.”

Richard Dunn, co-owner of New Generation Wrestling said: “Anarchy is going to be the biggest wrestling event West Yorkshire has ever seen.

“Yorkshire has always been a hotbed for world class wrestling talent, and we are delighted that the milestone for the UK scene will be taking place in Keighley.

“To give someone like Liam Slater the opportunity to impress on national TV in front of his home-town fans is very exciting for New Generation Wrestling.”

On his clash with Dara Diablo, Slater said: "He recently betrayed his best friend and turned his back on the fans and I eliminated him from the Destiny rumble in Hull.

"This is the first time we'll be in the ring together and it'll be a pretty intense encounter."

The show starts at 6.30pm, with advanced tickets starting at £11 for adults, £10 for children and £38 for a family ticket. They are available direct from Keighley Leisure Centre or online at www.ngwuk.com.
