DENHOLME'S Rebekah Tiler, who was only a kilogram behind the winner last year in the girls' 69kg category, will be bidding to make amends in the European Youth Weightlifting Championships later this summer.

The Bingley Grammar School pupil is in a five-strong Great Britain squad that will head to Sweden from August 1-9.

Named alongside World Youth Championship Tiler for Landskrona at under-17 level will be Mytholmroyd Weightlifting Club team-mate Jalaal Miller (boys' 94kg+), Stars For The Future clubmates Kian Panjavi (boys' 69kg) and Rosie Hardie (girls' 63kg), while Pitlochry Weightlifting Club's Rowan Morrogh Bernard competes in the under-15 girls' 53kg class.

Accompanying the athletes are British Weightlifting staff Dan Wagner (team leader), coaches Eddie Halstead and Sam Hayer and chaperone and physiotherapist Suzanne Basnett.

Wagner, who is also the governing body's talent pathway manager, said: “We’ve been very pleased with the performances of our young athletes over recent competitions and, despite opting to take a bigger team to Sweden in comparison to last year (thanks to new partner Weightlifting Supporters' Fund), squad selection was still tough.

“The European Youth Championships provide a fantastic opportunity for our up-and-coming stars to compete on an international stage and against the best young weightlifters from across the continent.

"It will be a great experience for them and we’ll continue to work hard to ensure that their dedication and efforts are recognised in their performances in August.”
