REBEKAH Tiler has been selected for the European Youth Championships for a third straight year.

The 16-year-old from Denholme is part of a five-strong Great Britain squad that will head to Sweden from August 1-9.

However, the Bingley Grammar School pupil, who is coming to the end of her GCSE exams, is already looking beyond the event in Landskrona this summer.

The Mytholmroyd Weightlifting Club team member said: "My main goal this summer is to do well in the World Championships in Houston from November 20-29.

"Particularly if I finish in the top three, it will give me ranking points towards the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

"I already have some points from last year's World Championships in Kazakhstan."

Tiler first competed in the European Youths in 2013 in Klaipeda, Lithuania, winning three gold medals with records at under-15 level and being named best female lifter.

Her experience last year in the girls' 69kg category was different in that she was runner-up in the clean and jerk and overall, winning the snatch.

Tiler said: "It was a little bit frustrating but the winner was older than me by about two years. However, this year I am more confident about success.

"I am injury free and have been working on my technique with my coach Eddie Halstead."

Named alongside World Youth Championship silver medallist Tiler in Sweden at under-17 level will be clubmate Jalaal Miller (boys’ 94kg+) and Stars For The Future clubmates Kian Panjavi (boys’ 69kg) and Rosie Hardie (girls’ 63kg), while Pitlochry Weightlifting Club’s Rowan Morrogh Bernard competes in the under-15 girls’ 53kg class.
