A busy weekend looms for local bowlers whether watching or supporting.

The Yorkshire ABA’s team events continue on Saturday with three local clubs still in contention. Cross Roads still fly the flag in the supplementary event for the Henry Taylor Cup and should account for West Bradford at Cranmore if a full squad is available.

In the Mixed Team event for the Hutchinson Cup, there are tough games on paper for Devon, who meet Hove Edge at Guiseley, and Oxenhope, who play past winners Glasshoughton Welfare at Overthorpe BC. The next games are on July 18.

Tomorrow sees the rearranged Skipton Veterans' Inter-District match against strong opponents Halifax. The hosts play again at Sutton for the last time this year, while the away team travel to Elland WMC for a very tough game. The next match in the series is against league leaders Bradford the following Friday. Start times are 1.30pm.

The Worth Valley’s Federation District team are back in action again on Sunday (2pm) in a must-win game against local rivals North Yorkshire.

The home leg is at Craven BC in Skipton, while the away team travel to Bilton WMC. Their opponents might not be the best team in the world but have some useful players and another difficult match is on the cards.

The quarter-finals of the Skipton KO team events in the Clarkson and Supplementary cups were due to take place last night. A full round-up will appear next week.

The Worth Valley/Skipton Juniors gave a much better performance in the Yorkshire Junior League Division Two, sharing the winners with Huddersfield B at Lund Park. The successful players were Thomas Johnson, Ben Hewitt, Oliver Burnett and Brad Picken. The next match is versus Halifax B on July 4.

The Valley Trebles were completed at Keighley BC last Sunday on a round-robin basis due to the shortage of entries and saw a comfortable victory in the for Skipton’s top bowling family in Rob Ellis, Robbie Ellis and Faye Ellis. They beat Barry and Carol Uttley, plus Maurice Haley of Steeton, in the final without their best bowler – mum Joanne – in the team.

Barry Turnbull was a local winner for Yorkshire Parks Vets in their match against South Yorkshire at Birkenshaw Park but he could not his side slipping to overall defeat.
