REBEKAH Tiler has broken another British record on her way to retaining her national crown in Coventry.

The 16-year-old from Denholme lifted 97kg in the snatch at the British Senior Championships at the Ricoh Arena to set a new mark from under-16s all the way through to under-23s.

The Bingley Grammar School pupil, who has now finished her ten GCSEs, also lifted 120kg in the clean and jerk to secure a total of 217kg and comfortably win the women's 69kg category, despite suffering from nausea.

However, after failing at 119kg and then 120kg, the teenager only succeeded at the third and final attempt in the clean and jerk.

Her three rivals were all born eight years earlier but they could only record totals of 181, 158 and 148kg respectively.

Rebekah said: "It was quite hot in there and I felt sick after my snatch, where I just missed out on 100kg, so my coach Eddie Halstead told me not to push it in the clean and jerk.

"But I am delighted to have won and so are my sponsors, UK Sport.

"I have only recently returned to full training after competing in the World Youth Championships in Peru in April (where she won two bronzes and a silver).

"My next big target is the European Youth Championships in Sweden from August 1-9."
