LEAH Moorby handled a change in her weight category well when she returned to domestic competition in the All Stars Open Championships at Doncaster Dome.

The Keighley international taekwondo star had to move up a category following the late withdrawal of all of the opponents in her weight group, and met a familiar foe in Horizon Taekwondo's Charlotte Banks in her semi-final.

British and Commonwealth champion Leah quickly showed she was capable of handling the heavier division very efficiently and, although Charlotte tried hard to stand her ground, Leah established her authority with a body shot, followed by a double headshot, to score seven points in the opening few seconds.

Three further head shots and a body shot led to the fight being stopped in the first round at 17-0, giving Leah a place in the final against one of her Great Britain team-mates Simone Abley (Spennymoor).

Both girls, who are Cadet European bronze medallists, know each other well from training and the first round was a cagey affair, with Simone edging in front by a point.

However, the Oakbank student applied the pressure after that with a double head shot to go in front 6-1, and followed this with two further head shots to make it 12-1.

But Simone struck back with a body shot and then caught the Keighley girl with a head shot and two more body shots to bring the score to 12-8 at the end of the second round.

Both worked hard in the third round, with Leah trying to extend her lead and Abley desperately trying to close the gap.

However, with only a single point being scored in the final round, the Keighley black belt took gold after an excellent and entertaining performance by both.

To top off a busy couple of days, Leah was guest of honour and opened the Keighley Festival in the Airedale Centre on Monday.
