ERMYSTED Grammar School pupil James Lund, from Keighley, followed up his success in May’s aquathlon with a 33rd place finish in the British Triathlon youth Elite Championships.

In his previous event in London, the youngster had finished eighth out of 50 competitors, leaving him in fine form heading into the Championships in Liverpool.

But, Lund had to overcome shoulder, elbow, hip and knee injuries sustained after dismounting his bike in wet conditions during the 10km bike ride which he eventually completed in a time of 19 minutes, 5 seconds.

Prior to his fall, Lund started well, finishing the 400m swim in the Royal Albert Docks in a time of 4 minutes and 52 seconds to leave him joint third heading into transition.

However, he pushed himself through the pain barrier to finish the final event, a 2.5k run along Liverpool’s waterfront, in a time of 9 minutes, 4 seconds.

This saw Lund finish 33rd out of 55 youth competitors with an overall time of 37 minutes, 53 seconds heading into the next event on August 8 at Docklands, London.
