JAMIE Kidd was in the limelight at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix last weekend in Manchester.

The 13-year-old Horizon Taekwondo Academy member from Silsden took part in a highly enjoyable demonstration tag event for Team WLM against Team Gurumu, national championship winners in 2013 and 2014.

Team Gurumu won, as expected, 51-45 in an event that pitched five 12 to 14-year-old competitors weighing between 35kg and 65kg against each other, with Team WLM's quintet also coming from West Lancashire, Barnsley and Doncaster.

Looking on at the World Taekwondo Federation event at a packed Manchester Arena, which had live streaming to 90 countries, were some of the top 32 in the world, who were seeking points towards the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Each tag competitor had a one-minute round against the nearest-sized opponent from the other team, and then a rotating game lasting five minutes involving all five athletes being subbed one at a time.

Points were one point for a punch, one for a kick to the body, three points for a spinning kick to the body or a kick to the head, and four points for a spinning kick to the head, exactly in line with Olympic Taekwondo scoring.

Ilkley Grammar School pupil's Jamie's one-on-one match was against 14-year-old Ismail Hussain, who represented Great Britain at the Cadet European Championships and Cadet World Championships this year.

Jamie then went up against three more Londoners in Will Tumber, Ilyas Hussain and Mohammed Nour in separate bouts, winning the exchanges on points, despite the size difference, which was greatest against Tumber.
