KEIGHLEY'S Leah Moorby made it a hat-trick of podium finishes for Great Britain, winning a bronze in the European Junior Championships in Latvia.

The Oakbank student bowed out to eventual -59kg winner Anamarija Runtic from Croatia and, though disappointed not to reach the final, was pleased to add to her international medal tally, having already won European cadet and World junior bronzes.

She drew a bye into the second round and faced a Belgium opponent in her second round match at Daugavpils.

A cagey start saw Leah take a 3-2 lead into the second round of the clash before a trademark headshot saw her go 10-8 up going into the final round, where the British champion continued to press forward and clinch the bout 18-12.

Leah then faced an Azerbaijan opponent in the quarter-final, just edging the opening round at 2-1.

Leah built her lead in the second round with solid body shots to take a 5-2 advantage into the third. The Azerbaijan fighter was a tough customer and came back strongly to bring the scores level at 6-6.

But further body shots from the Keighley black belt took the lead to 8-7 with seconds left on the clock before a lightning quick head shot gave Leah an 11-7 win.

The semi-final was another tough encounter as Leah struggled to get into her stride and went 5-0 down at the end of the first round to Runtic.

Despite working hard to get back into the contest, she remained 10-5 behind at the end of round two. The third round saw the British fighter within striking distance at 12-7 but, with time running out, she had to throw caution to the wind and paid the price by conceding further points to bow out at 19-7.

Leah is now preparing for her fourth GB appearance next month in Bucharest, where she takes part in the Under-21 European Championships.
