KEIGHLEY'S Muhammad Ali will sharpen his focus on Olympic qualification after claiming an impressive second victory in the latest World Series of Boxing round.

Flyweight Ali opened the show against USA Knockouts in front of a capacity crowd at Bethnal Green's York Hall and dominated his opponent as he got the British Lionhearts off to a flying start with a unanimous success.

The hosts went on to win 4-1 as they guaranteed their place in the quarter-finals, Ali having also helped them triumph with a winning debut in the five-round format in Morocco last month.

However, the 19-year-old said he was unlikely to feature for the Lions again in the near future as the first chance of the year to secure a place in Rio 2016 takes place next month in Turkey.

He said: "You have to take part in two World Series events and I've done that. I'm now turning my attention to Olympic qualification."

The AIBA European Olympic Qualification tournament takes place in Samsun from April 7-18, though there will be further opportunities in Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

That will see a step back to the three-round discipline, though Ali admits he likes the longer version of the World Series format.

His Indian opponent last week, Gaurav Bidhuri, who was guesting for the USA team, could not live with Ali’s relentless work-rate and volume of punches as the Bury Amateur Boxing Club ace won all five rounds on the three judges’ scorecards.

Ali said: "He was an experienced guy, who has done well in the series, but I dealt with him.

"It was quite an entertaining fight in front of a noisy crowd.

"Longer fights suit me because my fitness is a key asset. The longer a fight goes on the stronger I get."
