NIAMH Broad has added to the Keighley area's strong reputation in weightlifting.

The Year Ten student at Oakbank School has won the under-15 girls' 63kg title at the Cybex British Age-Group Championships at Castleford Phoenix Theatre.

Niamh defeated 15 other competitors, lifting 55kg in the snatch and 70kg in the clean and jerk, finishing level with Chloe Hood but beating her on Sinclair scores of 170.371 to 167.727 because she was lighter (60.70kg to 62.10kg).

Oakbank School's marketing and events officer Hannah Borkala said: “We would like to congratulate Niamh on her fantastic achievement and wish her lots of luck in future competitions. We would love to see her selected for Team GB in the future!”

Former Denholme resident Rebekah Tiler, who now lives at Walsden, was an emphatic winner of the under-17 girls' title on 220kg with a 98kg snatch and 122kg clean and jerk.

Next best was the much lighter Catrin Jones with a 63kg snatch and 80kg clean and jerk.
