OXENHOPE’S Libby Denby had a great start to her 2016 racing season taking first junior rider in the challenging two-day Holme Valley Wheelers stage race.

More than 50 women from all over the country took part in the 100-mile event with several professional teams attending as part of their early-season programme.

Having moved up from the youth category at the start of the year this was Libby’s first race against elite senior women, and her first on open roads.

Denby rides for the North West based team, Team 22 which is an under-23 women’s development team and a feeder for the Elite Sporting Chance Women’s team.

Team 22 girls filled the first three places in the junior category with Savannah Morgan and Sam Verill coming second and third respectively.

Denby finished an impressive 13th overall in a race that was won overall by Jennifer George from the Drops Cycling Team

Denby's next big goals are the Tour of Northumberland later this month and the coveted National Junior Championships in Lincoln on May 15.
