JAMES Lampkin won the Ilkley Grand National time and observation trial on Middleton Moor after a tense battle with Summerbridge electrician Danny Gamble and Glusburn builder Nathan Wrigglesworth.

The Bradley plumber and tiler lost just five marks in his winning ride. Gamble was matching Lampkin until he halted on the third lap in the second of two new sections named High Knott just before the legendary Kex Beck hazards alongside the A59 trunk road.

Barnoldswick precision engineer Anthony Ayrton set the pace, lapping the ten-mile all moorland course in 1hr 52min 4secs and was also the second Over-40s challenger behind Wrigglesworth. Anthony rode with blistered hands after racing in an enduro event the previous weekend.

Bradford DMC 4th Manywells Winters Series, Glusburn

Keighley Class C youth rider Aaron Carter really got to grips with the eight-section four-lap trials course on the pasture above the farm. The quarry remains provided a stiff test with some steep climbs but that did not deter Aaron, who rode the entire course without a single penalty.
