The River Aire has been out of action through most of the winter due to adverse weather and severe flooding. As general conditions improve, anglers returning to the bank are reminded that only fly, small spinners and worm can be used on river waters until June 16.

Keighley Angling Club has reinforced the three-month ban on cereal baits and maggot to help sustain stocks by allowing fish to spawn freely in their natural habitat.

The club is asking members to respect the seasonal rules to preserve the Aire’s reputation as one of the premier trout and grayling rivers in the north of England.

The canal, which is unaffected by the restriction, is showing positive signs; two members had a large haul of roach using pole and mixed maggot during a three hour spell on the canal near Riddlesden. Other still waters are also unaffected by the ban.
