HAWORTH Hawks pair Emily Mellor and Aliza Khaliq were in the Bradford Grammar under-13 girls team that reached the English Schools Table Tennis Association finals.

They progressed through the regional finals in Grantham, having remained undefeated with wins over St Mary’s, Crosby (6-2), Acklam Grange School, Middlesbrough (7-1) and Dustons School, Northampton (5-3).

They will now play at the finals in Hinckley, Leicestershire, next month along with another club mate, Maddy Silberberg, who qualifies with the Bradford Grammar School under-19 girls team.

Another Hawks player, Alex Davies, was part of the BGS under-13 boys team who placed third in Grantham after defeating Thomas Telford School 6-2 but losing 5-3 to Lincroft School, Bedford, and 7-1 to winners St Mary’s of Hull.

Meanwhile, more girls from Haworth Hawks have also enjoyed success. Grace Fellingham-Webb won her first junior plate at the last Blackpool Two Star event. In the same competition, Hallie Fitton was thrilled to reach the semi-finals in the under-11 category.

Ten of the club's players took part in the Yorkshire Region qualifier at Pontefract, with six youngsters going forward to represent Yorkshire at the Inter-Regional Finals in May at Kettering.

These were: Fellingham-Webb and Mellor – Cadet girls; Khaliq – under-13 girls; Oliver Bryant – under-13 boys; Fitton and Evie Davies – under-11 girls.

Morgan Reed, who this year didn’t qualify, has started training with the Yorkshire Development squad at Pontefract.

The boys triumphed on the final day of the regional Cadet League at Halifax. Haworth Hawks' top team of Ben Farrar, Spencer Hurd, Joshua Poulsen and Bryant ended the day as runners-up in Division One to Halifax TT Club A team.
