HAWORTH Hawks’ Nathan Ward won the Jack Webber trophy in the Keighley League's closed competition.
The junior got better as the tournament progressed and was too good for veteran John Jennison in the final, winning 11-9, 11-5, 11-8.
The junior singles was a closely-fought competition, with Spencer Hurd just triumphing in the final against his Haworth Sparrowhawks team mate Oliver Bryant, winning 11-8, 12-14, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7.
The ladies singles final was contested, like last year, by Kath Manogue and Zarnab Jamal of Nemesis A. Again, it was Zarnab who prevailed 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.
In the Handicap final, which is one game up to 44, Alan Stevens and Harry Davies fought it out, with both playing off the same handicap, Stevens triumphing 44-33.
Safraz Khan, of Ukrainians B, was dominant in all open competitions and proved too strong for Maurice Biott in the men's singles final, winning 11-1, 11-7, 11-5.
In the veterans event, Safraz overcame Rod Robertson in the final 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 and the doubles was won by Safraz and Paul McKrieth, who beat Steve Rutherford and Robertson 11-9, 5-11, 11-6, 11-9.
Paul Bryant, last year's veterans and men's champion, had to retire early in the competition due to an Achilles injury.
