THERE was not much action during the Bank Holiday weekend but some individual efforts caught the eye despite the cold weather.

David Scott, of Cross Hills, usually does well in the Hillcrest Classic at Sowerby Bridge and again qualified for the intermediate rounds after two good wins.

Philip Dowgill, also of Cross Hills, was recently recalled to the Yorkshire ABA County squad and made a late appearance in the away team against old rivals Lancashire at Garswood Hall, Wigan.

He managed a good win as Yorkshire comfortably won the match there and in the home leg at Ossett Flying Horse. The team have yet to play Cheshire and Wales this term and hold every chance of success.

The Worth Valley/Skipton junior side were no match for Heavy Woollen A in the Yorkshire Division Two League clash at Lund Park where only Ben Hewitt recorded a 21-20 win. Their next match is on May 21 at Bradford B.

Skipton Veterans inter-district team begin another campaign on Friday at 1.30pm in the Yorkshire ABA League. They face a tough assignment against local rivals Halifax, with the home leg at Craven in Skipton while the away team travel to Kingston. The side need a much better effort this time in a league dominated by Huddersfield and Bradford.

The Worth Valley Handicap Doubles are scheduled for Broughton Road on Sunday so players are asked to get their entries to Mick Demain as soon as possible.

Local clubs are making early progress in various leagues, with Oxenhope taking pride of place, heading Halifax Veterans Division One after four games.

Leaders in the Worth Valley Veterans divisions are Cross Hills A, Legion B, Cross Hills B, Rolls Royce and Cullingworth C.

Top positions in the Skipton League are held by Cross Hills A, Lund A/Whinfield A and Grassington. Newcomers Sutton Park are already well clear in the Aire-Wharfe Saturday League Division Two, while Devon are third in the top flight.

Cross Roads A are already well-positioned in the Hebden Bridge League Division One title race.
