KEIGHLEY angler Jesse Young took advantage of the current river ban on maggot and cereal baits to refresh his fly fishing tactics.

After several upstream casts on the River Aire with an olive nymph tied to floating line, he landed a fin-perfect male grayling on the river.

Jesse, who is a junior member of Keighley Angling Club, safely returned the grayling to the water. He tested several more swims along the river and was rewarded with more specimen fish.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a resurgence of fly fishing along the river as anglers targeted trout rising to feed on sedge flies and emerging mayflies suspended in the water.

The club has also received a number of reports of brown trout being caught on wet flies

The Aire has become home to increasing numbers of brown trout and grayling and the club is keen to hear from fly anglers who would like to test their skills in its fast and slow running waters.

Day tickets and full membership can be obtained from Keighley club secretary Dennis Freeman on 07980338225.
