RYAN Perry smashed the course record in Bronte Wheelers' latest 25-mile time trial on the Stirton to Settle course.

The national 25-mile time trial champion recorded a time of 51min 45secs to knock three minutes off the previous best.

This course, with almost 1,500 feet of climbing, is one of the toughest in the country and to average 47kph is breathtaking.

In second place was Steve Ayers, riding for VC Bradford in 55:58, and third and fastest junior was Jamie Ridehalgh (Speedflex) with an excellent time of 57min 03secs.

Fastest veteran was 49-year-old Darren Caines (VC Bradford) with a plus of 5:52 on his standard.

Perry is contemplating attempting to beat the current national ten-mile record held by professional Alex Dowsett of Movistar and going under 17 minutes.
