WORTH Valley’s over-60s have virtually assured themselves of a place in the Federation League finals at Littleborough

after winning their penultimate match comfortably, defeating Halifax B 8-2 at Elland C&BC.

Good wins came from Paul Hillam, Rod Bastow and skipper Derek Seed. Their final match is against leaders Halifax A.

The Yorkshire Cup final will be between Brighouse and Crossgates. Local star Peter Clark won in the semi-finals for Brighouse against Clayton, for whom Phil Dowgill, Graeme Reay, Andrew Tate and David Scott all featured.

Yorkshire have reached the County Championship final, easily defeating Staffordshire, where Cross Hills star Dowgill just lost in the away leg. They now meet Shropshire.

Shropshire Ladies beat Yorkshire Ladies in their semi-final, in which local representative Viv Abell suffered a narrow defeat in the away leg. The white rose team now play Wales in the Waterloo Cup in Derbyshire where they will look to compensate for this defeat.

The Skipton League season reaches its climax on Thursday with plenty still to play for.

Ahead of this week's matches, Cononley A headed Division One just above Keighley A and Cross Hills A but had a game in hand. At the bottom, promoted Cross Hills B and Steeton A look set to return to the second tier.

In Division Two, Lund Park A look odds-on to win the league with Cononley B favourites to join them while Broughton B and Grassington are virtually level in Division Three. All clubs begin the Handicap KO events next week after all final positions are known.

The Worth Valley Veterans League is also drawing to a conclusion before Cup KO events begin shortly.

Ahead of this week's games, Gargrave A led Division One just ahead of Settle A and Cross Hills A. It was also very close in Division Two where Legion B were just in front of Sutton A and Steeton A. Colne Cricket led Division Three ahead of Keighley B, who had a game in hand, while Lund Park B were clear in Division Four.

Bingley B and C teams were battling it out in the fifth tier.

David Scott, of Silsden, has qualified for the finals of the Spen Victoria Classic.

This Sunday sees games in the Hebden Mixed Pairs at Halifax, while the Skipton Merit takes place on a green yet to be announced.
