SILSDEN teenager Tommy Lowrie landed a whopping personal best catch after qualifying for the British Young Carpers Championship final at his first attempt.

The 13-year-old netted a 32lb 2oz mirror carp, which was the second biggest fish in the final of the event held on Oxlease Lake in Oxford.

His prize catch helped earn him 16th place overall in the national competition. He also won the marshals award and a selection of free angling equipment.

The Bradford No 1 member had picked up an earlier accolade in reaching the final.

In his qualifier, he caught a 9lb 8oz mirror carp, gaining him the fastest-caught fish of the day.
