THE FINALS of the Worth Valley League cups take place at Broughton Road, Skipton on Saturday and include a repeat of last year’s Division One Valley Cup showpiece when Cross Roads meet Denholme at around 3pm.

The derby between Bingley A and Bingley B starts the day off in Division Three's Chairman’s Cup at 11am while in Division Two, Silsden Playing F meet Lund Park B for the Supplementary Cup at around 1pm.

The Veterans League cup finals are at Lund Park on Monday and feature the following games in Divisions One to Five –Burgess Shield: Broughton Road v Oxenhope; Thornton Shield: Sutton A v Oakworth; Holmes Shield: Lund Park A v Gargrave B; Capstick Shield: Cullingworth B v Whins Wood A; Division Five: Gargrave C v Steeton C. Starting times to be announced.

It is a busy time at Lund Park, with preliminaries in the Skipton Johnston Floodlit Handicap last night and the finals of the Hebden Royd four-man team event tomorrow at 7pm, again under lights.

With only only one game left, Sutton are the winners of the Aire-Wharfe Division Two title at their first go in this league, while in Division One it has been a poor season for Devon and Oxenhope.

The latter also ended up in the bottom half of the Wednesday Singles League Division One but above Addingham, who are relegated. However, things were brighter for Oxenhope as the Tuesday night Aire-Wharfe Pairs Division Two title was won by the B team, who were well ahead of both Cross Roads teams.

Worth Valley/Skipton Juniors have had a tough time in Yorkshire ABA Division Two but ended the season with two creditable efforts against both Huddersfield C and B teams. While both games were lost, the locals shared the winners in each match thanks to two victories by Ben Hewitt and Oliver Burnett, and wins by Bradley Picken and Marcus Anderton.

Silsden Ladies have retained the Yorkshire Ladies League Division One title after two good results against the runners-up and old rivals Linthwaite Hall. A final 7-3 home win saw them triumph by nine points after good wins by stand-in captain Liz Bland and a much-improved Muriel Baker. Sue Finnie remained undefeated in the league and has won the average prize.

It was not such good news for Sue when she played in the Yorkshire ABA’s Hutchinson Trophy final for mixed teams, representing Ladyhill Park at Cleckheaton Sports. Together with husband Peter and team-mate Cathy Rushton, they came badly unstuck against holders Glasshoughton Welfare, who retained the trophy.

The final event of the season, the Valley Handicap Doubles, goes ahead at Keighley BC on Sunday at 10.30am.
