City of York 7ths 2 Airedale Ladies 2nds 7

AIREDALE went behind twice but fought back to claim an impressive in Yorkshire Division Five North.

Despite some impressive saves, goalkeeper Claire White could not prevent York from taking an early lead.

Airedale reacted quickly with Libby Marsh scoring what she thought was an equaliser but the umpire disallowed the goal and instead called for a short corner. Undeterred, the visitors made use of this as Sam Fawcett put them level.

York struck back to regain the lead but Adele Haughey found her stick on the receiving end of a Nic Heeley pass to make it 2-2.

Minutes later, Airedale were on the attack again as Marsh put the visitors in the lead at half-time.

The efforts of Katie Armitage and Georgia Ramshaw ensured that possession remained with Airedale and this created opportunity for Marsh and Haughey to score again.

The defensive unit of Lindsey Carey, Lesley Leach, Laura Ludwinski and Kitty Blake could not be broken down by York. Captain Nic Heeley finally added to the scoreboard herself after assisting with two earlier goals.

Katherine Bird, who was out of her usual position, made a sensational sprint up the entire length of the pitch to make a perfectly-timed pass to Haughey, who earned herself a hat-trick.
