LOCAL bowling begins on Sunday with one of the popular ‘32s' at Craven BC, while other competitions get up and running next week.

Play begins at 10am at Craven and features a good mixture of local players and ones from further afield. The draw will be made on the day.

The Hebden Royd ABA gets under way with preliminary rounds in the Sunday Morning KO on Monday evening when 24 teams go to post. The draw includes Oakworth v Ripponden A at Luddendenfoot, Cross Roads C v Heptonstall A at Denholme, Sowerby A v Oxenhope at Hillcrest, Cullingworth v Sowerby B at Crow Wood, Denholme v Ripponden B at Heptonstall and Cross Roads A v Cross Roads B at Cullingworth.

All first-match losers go into a new Supplementary event and games continue up until April 24 when league matches begin.

The Spring Floodlight Handicap event for the Jeff Clark Trophy, which is the first Skipton competition of the season, begins with preliminaries on Tuesday (6.45pm) and finishes with the last eight two days later on a green to be decided when the qualifiers are known.

The Aire-Wharfe Wednesday singles leagues begin on April 5 with local representatives Oxenhope in Division One and Addingham back in Division Two.

The full Saturday programme begins on April 8, with three teams from this area in the top flight. Oxenhope are joined by promoted Sutton Park and the old Devon side have moved to Broughton Road.

The various doubles leagues in this Association begin the following week, while Craven have joined the eight a side Monday League and could go well in Division Two.

The Halifax League gets underway on Wednesday with Oxenhope and Cross Roads A in the firing line in Division One where they begin with tough games at Elland WMC and Brighouse respectively. Cross Roads B remain in Division Two and Denholme in Division Three. The controversial 54321 system of scoring is being aired this season.

The local Worth Valley League gets going with the usual three league set-up on Saturday, April 8, while the Veterans League, now numbering five divisions, begin on Monday with 53 sides battling it out for honours.
