CULLINGWORTH children are being invited to put themselves in the picture for the Tour De Yorkshire.

They can help make a giant collage to celebrate international riders who will be racing along roads near the village next month.

Cullingworth Village Hall is hosting the community arts session on Saturday, April 29 from 2pm to 4pm, the day before the cyclists arrive.

Cullingworth Village Hall Management Committee is organising the event, which will be held in its Saturday cafe.

Hall spokesman Kathryn Toledano said: “We plan to make, with the help of lots of children, a really big collage celebrating the Tour de Yorkshire.

“Grateful thanks to Bradford Council who have provided a small grant to cover the cost of materials, enabling this to be a free event.”

The Tour De Yorkshire will pass through Haworth, Leeming and Denholme during the third and final day of the annual race, on April 30.

Stage 3 sets from Bradford, and heads along the Wharfe Valley into the Yorkshire Dales, returning via Skipton, then through Silsden, Keighley, the Worth Valley and Denholme and on to Halifax.

The cyclists are scheduled to arrive in Farnhill at 1.49pm, then Kildwick at 1.50pm, Silsden at 1.53pm, Cote de Silsden at 2pm, Riddlesden at 2.03pm, Keighley at 2.06pm, Cross Roads at 2.12pm, Haworth at 2.15pm, Cote de Haworth at 2.17pm, Oxenhope at 2.22pm, Leeming at 2.25pm, Cote de Leeming at 2.27pm and Denholme at 2.28pm.

Timings have been calculated by anticipating the peloton’s average speed, but are subject to change depending on factors such as the wind speed and direction.

The race caravan, which precedes the cyclists, is due in Haworth at 12.30pm.

Members of the management committee of Cullingworth Village Hall are currently raising money to construct a £750,000 replacement for the ageing building.

The existing building in Station Road was built in 1971. Planning permission was given for a new building in Lodge Street last March, but at the time still had to raise more than £500,000 towards the construction and furnishing costs.

The new venue, next to Cullingworth Medical Centre, will also include a cafe and a children’s nursery, catering for 40 children and staff members.

The steering committee secured £410,600 of ‘Section 106’ community money from David Wilson Homes, which is building 223 properties at Hewenden Ridge in Manywells Brow.

The group had raised £520,000 by spring this year, the rest coming from fundraising and the village hall reserves.
