Rebekah Tiler celebrated her return to international competition in style yesterday, winning silver in the snatch to achieve fourth place overall at the European Weightlifting Championships.
Competing in the women’s 69kg category, 18-year-old Tiler achieved three good lifts in the first discipline, opening with 93kg, before clearing 96kg and 100kg to secure second place and a well-deserved silver medal.
The Denholme teenager opened with 120kg in the clean and jerk before a slip on the platform caused her to miss her second lift of 124kg.
She came back out confidently and cleared the weight in her third and final lift to finish in fourth place with an impressive total of 224kg – just 1kg behind the second and third placed lifters.
The competition is one of the key qualifying events for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
