A KEIGHLEY man has won a second weightlifting competition in Pakistan only weeks after becoming ‘Mr Pakistan’.

Aqeeb Khalifa Jamati was watched by 3,000 supporters when he recently won a weightlifting competition at his gym in Mirpur for the second year running.

He took the accolade Mr Pakistan by lifting 260 kg on a bench press, while staying at his grandparents’ home in the town of Kharak.

He last month went on to the more prestigious Heavyweight Powerlifting Competition and was watched by several friends from Keighley as he took the top title.

Aqeeb, 24, has been spending six months training at the Gym Box in preparation for the competition. He also helps train local boys in the gym.

He switched to weightlifting last year after being forced to give a professional football career with Boston United due to a broken leg.

As always, Aqeeb dedicated his victory to his late Uncle Shak, from Keighley, who helped him during his sports training as a teenager.
