THE warm weather brought many anglers to local stretches of the river and canal.
Despite the lack of rain having an impact on water levels, Keighley Angling Club has received reports that many section of the Aire are responding well. One angler opted to pole fish with mixed maggot on deep pool swims below Utley.
He felt his line tighten with strong bites and nibbles during a six-hour session.
Despite ruing several fish that got away, his haul included an impressive forty two chub up to ten inches in length and two brown trout which were said to be in peak condition. All fish were returned to the waters.
Several members also reported good levels of activity on carefully selected stretches of the river particularly downstream from Kildwick and close to Stockbridge.
The canal offered challenging conditions in the warm climate which caused many fish to head for the cooler, shaded swims.
The shoals of bream and roach previously spotted at the rhododendron bushes at Riddlesden a few weeks ago have remained there in strong numbers.
