Oxenhope Rec 4 Brighouse Old Boys 1
A man of the match performance from Jamie Longley helped Oxenhope secure their first three points of the
season.
The first big chance fell to Michael Garnett when he was put through down the left by James Bailey. He drove his
shot low but it was saved by the keeper.
The away side took the lead against the run of play after a great diagonal ball was converted.
With some more excellent football, it wasn't long before the home side levelled when Longley played in Tom Marshall, who calmly squared the ball to Bailey and he made no mistake to tap home his third in two games.
Oxenhope took the lead when a corner was whipped in by Bailey and met by a header from Garnett, which came off Leon Smith on the way into the net.
With Longley and Andy King pulling the strings in midfield, Oxenhope increased their lead before the break.
Another good move released Marshall, who lobbed the keeper from all of 20 yards for a great finish.
In the second half Garnett could have scored with a header and Smith shot wide from the angle.
With half an hour to go new signing from Steeton, Lee Reilly, replaced Bailey and was soon in the thick of the action, linking up well with Garnett.
On 70 minutes Oxenhope were awarded a penalty after some skilful play by Marshall but Reilly hit the spot-kick wide. Man of the match Longley was replaced by Ben White before Marshall finished off the night with another great finish low into the bottom corner.
Oxenhope: Devlin, Scott, Wilson, Nelson S, Nelson D (Bellamy), King, Smith (White), Longley, Bailey (Reilly), Garnett, Marshall.
