FEW local teams compete in Yorkshire ABA events for a variety of reasons and the preliminary round games have added to the confusion that surrounds the events.

At least Cross Roads got through in the Yorkshire Cup with a 70-point plus victory over Hemplow without been stretched. They go on to the next stage on Saturday, May 12.

In the mixed team event for the Hutchinson Trophy, Broughton Road’s team received a bye after their opponents from Castleford withdrew but Settle were comfortably beaten by Almondbury A in the same event and now play in the Supplementary event for the Radley Trophy on the same day with a more realistic chance of success.

Cross Roads A continued the good work on Sunday when they reached the finals of the Hebden Bridge Sunday Morning KO event, to be held at Todmorden Park on Sunday at 10.30.

They easily beat Ripponden B and now meet local rivals Denholme in the semis.

Not to be outdone, Oakworth have reached the semis of the Supplementary event at the same venue after a good win over Mytholmroyd B at Saville and now play Saville or Mytholmroyd D.

The Skipton Handicap is to be held as a one-day event on Sunday at a venue yet to be announced after entries are received.

Last Sunday, district games in the Federation of Bowling took place on a home and away basis for some local teams with good results for some individuals and not for others.

David Upton, David Cadwallader and Steve Morris excelled for Airedale A in the home leg and Billy Cater and Mark Barker in the away match but all to no avail as their side lost to Middleton.

The Airedale B team defeated a poor Fylde B team in their match with victories for Mick Upton, Dave Smith and Steve Griffiths.

Elsewhere, Chris Wilson won for Bradford as they easily beat Leeds B.

The Yorkshire Ladies Handicap is at Slazengers Sports on Sunday.

Oxenhope have also made progress in the Hutchinson Trophy, comfortably beating Grange Park by over 20 points at the headquarters of Yorkshire Bowling at Mirfield Old Bank.
