A TEACHER from Keighley has won a coveted place to represent Great Britain next month at the World Mountain Running Long Distance Championships.

Jack Wood, a maths teacher at South Craven School, has been congratulated by his colleagues for his achievement.

He was selected for the team after gaining fourth place in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Race which was used as a selection contest.

A spokesman for South Craven School said: "Jack, who runs with Ilkley Harriers, will be travelling to Poland at the end of June to take part in a 22-mile race in the mountains with four of the other men who have been selected.

"Jack says he is hoping to finish the course at around the three hour mark.

"He has been running competitively since he was at school, and has been a member of the Ilkley Harriers club for 10 years.

"He is now also running a cross country club at South Craven School for our young, future long distance hopefuls."

Last month, Mr Wood shrugged off some miserable weather conditions to take the senior men's title at the latest Bunny Run series, on the moors outside Haworth.
