Long Lee's Shahbaz Ahmed took ten wickets on Saturday and in the process broke a Craven & District Cricket League record.

A Craven & District Cricket League league record was broken on Saturday when Long Lee's Shahbaz Ahmed returned the incredible figures of 10-10 off 11 overs as Denholme were shot out for a paltry 22 in 21 overs.

Their innings contained seven ducks with David Wear and his son Andrew Wear each scoring seven. In their innings the Keighley side made 125 with Mark Day top scoring with 40 as Andrew Wear took 4-42 and David Wear 3-21.

In his fifth season at the 29-year-old Ahmed record his best ever figures and in the process set a new league record.

The right arm medium pace bowler's 10-10 beat the league record of 10-17 and shattered his own personal best figures of 7-23.

Ahmed, who lives in Riddlesden, said: "I've been feeling like a celebrity ever since I did it. It means a lot to me because I always try to play good cricket."

Ahmed said everybody at the club has been very happy for him as he has received several kind offers to be taken out for dinner.

Ahmed also said that his captain informed him that the club had not been in the news recently.

"The first team has struggled a bit the last couple of years. This will hopefully give morale a boost."

Last Saturday's game was Ahmed's first first team game of the season. He played 12 games for the club's top team last season.

However he has been assured that he will be back playing for the first team this Saturday when Long Lee host Chatburn at Golden View.
