Steeton Reserves captain Ian Wellock hoists the Keighley & District Supple-mentary Cup after his side beat the Keighley Shamrocks Reserves 3-1.
Keighley Shamrocks Reserves 1 Steeton Reserves 3
Steeton Reserves put the first silverware of the season on the table, having overcome Keighley Shamrocks to secure the Keighley & District FA Supplementary Cup and during the course of the match learn that neighbours Bronte Wanderers had drawn at home to Ovenden to deprive them of the points they needed to prevent the Summerhill Lane side clinching the County Amateur Reserve Division championship.
Shammies had the better of things in the first half, with the impressive Ryan Hook striking the upright with a header after nine minutes. And after 16 minutes the unfortunate Marc Sennett deflected a dangerous through ball past his own keeper to open the scoring for Shammies.
Steeton created their best chance of the half through good work from Sennett and Tom Woodward on the right but striker Colin Horsfield could only rattle the Shammies' crossbar from close range.
In the second half Steeton raised the tempo of their game and after 55 minutes got back on equal terms when Dave McManus headed on a punt down the left to Nicky McNally who ran at the Shammies defence before feeding his pass to Nicky Trowers. He duly controlled and drilled his right foot shot low into the far corner to make it 1-1.
Although Steeton had gained the upper hand, Shammies were next to get the ball into the back of the net but the linesman flagged and the goal was ruled out for offside. Then Trowers fired home after a scramble in the Shammies box but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul on the keeper with 54 minutes gone.
A minute later Steeton got in front when substitute Aaron Hollindrake collected, turned and made an incisive run before despatching his pass to McNally, who swivelled and shot. It was bravely blocked but the ball came out to Woodward, who fired his shot up and beyond keeper Steve Duff to put Steeton 2-1 up.

In the 77th minute Hollindrake collected and cleverly turned his man from a throw-in on the right by Sennett. He passed to McNally with his back to goal. He spun and turned before firing his shot low into the far corner to clinch the victory at 3-1.
With Shammies under increasing pressure keeper Duff produced a brilliant flying save to tip over Woodward's effort. And then with two minutes to go, a ball forward found the pacy McNally, who beat his man on the left, broke into the box, rounded the keeper and "scored" only for the linesman to flag and again the ref ruled the effort out.
This Saturday Steeton entertain Bay Athletic Reserves at Summerhill Lane to conclude their league programme and should be presented with their championship trophy. The only unfinished business will be dealt with when they travel to Campion on Friday, May 16, to meet Ardsley Celtic Reserves in the West Riding County Reserve Division league cup final (kick-off 6.45pm).
