KEIGHLEY Cougars, who are taking legal action along with Sheffield Eagles against the Rugby Football League over their failure to dock club points in the Kingstone Press Championship for fielding ineligible players, have come up with a solution for next season.

Cougars, who were relegated to Championship One as a result of the RFL's decision to reverse the result of their original independent tribunal, have proposed to the governing body that Batley Bulldogs and Doncaster have their points deduction reinstated.

This would eliminate any issues concerning Sheffield Eagles, who lost both prize-money and a second chance if they lost their first play-off match.

Cougars are also proposing that Batley Bulldogs, even though the above changes would mean they finished tenth, would become the extra team in the Championship next season.

However, they also propose that Batley's prize-money would be at the discretion of the RFL and that they don't participate in next season'sSummer Bash at Blackpool but would instead receive one bonus point as compensation.

They are also requesting a statement from the RFL as to whether they are going to enforce operational rule B3:17 next season, or in any future season.

Cougars say they have been made aware of several other instances when it is believed that clubs have fielded ineligible players this season but have not been punished.

The statement on their web-site concludes: "This problem needs to be sorted out in a just and equitable manner for the good of our sport and sport generally, and quickly."
