HUNSLET Hawks have announced the signing of 23-year-old centre Elliott Cosgrove from Keighley Cougars on a one-year contract.

Cosgrove, who joined the Cougars from Dewsbury Rams in 2013 following a loan spell, follows winger Richie Barnett, who has also joined Hawks, having previously played for the Leeds club.

Hunslet director of rugby Darren Williams said: “We're delighted to add Elliott to our Championship squad for 2015. He’s a very aggressive defender who still has plenty of improvement in him.

"He has recently been playing rugby union for Huddersfield before his call up to the Ireland rugby league squad for the European Championship. He is a centre who can also play in the back row.”

Barnett has rejoined Hawks on a one-year deal, having made 60 appearances for the Cougars, scoring 30 tries.

Williams said: “When Richie first contacted me about the possibility of returning to the club I said to him it’s something we would consider.

"He’s improved his game awareness over the last few years and he’s had some game time playing in the centre, so he also gives us some utility options there as well as his favoured wing position.

"He scores tries as his career to date proves and his ratio of a try every other game is most impressive. What’s really impressed me with Richie was his desire to play at the highest level possible.

"That’s been his motivation in this move and not financial gain. He’s always stated how much he enjoyed his previous spell with the club.”

Barnett said: “I’m happy to be back at Hunslet as I enjoyed my previous time there so I still know a lot of the staff and players, which will make it easier for me to settle back in.

"I’m aware it’s going to be a tough challenge next year but with the players and staff currently in place the club is definitely going in the right direction.”
